Would you leave South Africa if you could?

This is a personal question, not political.

If you had the opportunity:
• Would you leave South Africa or stay?
• Why would you make that choice?
• What would make you definitely stay?

Share your honest thoughts - everyone’s perspective is valid!

(Keep it respectful please)

Honestly, I’d probably stay in South Africa. It’s not perfect (far from it), but there’s just something about this place – the people, the vibe, the space… you don’t really get it anywhere else.

Why stay? Quality of life, hey. If you’ve got your setup sorted, you can actually live very well here. Plus, there’s still opportunity if you’re willing to make a plan.

Would I ever leave? Ja, maybe if things really went south (proper instability, safety getting much worse, that kind of thing). But it wouldn’t be an easy decision at all.

I am staying. I know it not always wonderful. But the people overall are the friendliest. The country is so beautiful. And our weather is amazing.

And like they say, the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t

Welcome to the forum, @Jopret! Great to have you join us.

That’s a refreshingly positive perspective. You’ve hit on something important, South Africa’s beauty and people really do have a way of making the challenges feel worth it. Where in the country are you based? And what’s your single favourite thing about living here (aside from the amazing weather!)?

Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts around the forum.

I’m in Pretoria. We love going camping, and so many places within an hours drive makes a weekend get away with my family so easy! You always get Wildlife. And what can be better than waking up with a Giraffe just on your stoep
