What makes South Africa unique compared to other countries?

For me it’s the mix, not just cultures, but how everything kind of exists side by side. You can go from proper city life to bushveld in a few hours, hear five different languages in one conversation, and have people from completely different backgrounds all sharing the same space. It’s not always smooth, but it’s real, and there’s something special about that.

Also, South Africans just have a certain resilience and humour about them. Things can go sideways, load shedding, politics, whatever, and people still make a plan and find a way to laugh about it. That “maak ’n plan” mindset and the ability to adapt is something I don’t think you fully appreciate until you’ve lived here.
