This weekend wraps up the penultimate round of the regular URC season, and with the playoff picture still wide open, several of these games carry real weight. Eight matches across Friday and Saturday, win probabilities based on current Betway odds.
Friday 8 May
Ulster vs Stormers, 20:45 SAST (Kingspan Stadium, Belfast)
The Stormers go into this one as slight favourites despite being away from home, sitting top of the log with 56 points. Their form has been exceptional lately, including a 48-12 hammering of Glasgow two weeks ago. Ulster have been building nicely and reached a Challenge Cup Final in the process. Worth noting that every head-to-head between these two sides since the SA teams joined the URC has gone to the home side, five games in a row. That record feels relevant.
Win probability: Stormers 56%, Ulster 44%
Glasgow Warriors vs Cardiff, 20:45 SAST (Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow)
Glasgow need the win here. If the Stormers slip in Belfast, a Glasgow victory puts them top of the table going into the final round. Cardiff are still alive for a playoff spot but face a tough ask away from home against a side with real motivation.
Win probability: Glasgow 85%, Cardiff 15%
Saturday 9 May
Bulls vs Zebre Parma, 12:45 SAST (Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria)
About as close to a guaranteed result as rugby offers. Zebre are propping up the table and Loftus on a warm Highveld afternoon is not where they want to be. Johan Ackermann will be targeting a bonus point win to keep the Bulls in playoff contention.
Win probability: Bulls 99%, Zebre 1%
Hollywoodbets Sharks vs Benetton, 15:00 SAST (Kings Park, Durban)
Benetton pulled off a result against the Sharks last weekend and will arrive in Durban with belief. The Sharks have plenty to play for at home though, and this should be tighter than the odds suggest. A revenge job on the cards.
Win probability: Sharks 80%, Benetton 20%
Ospreys vs Scarlets, 17:30 SAST (Swansea)
The Welsh derby brings unpredictability as usual. Both sides are in mid-table with little riding on it except regional pride, which can be enough to produce a contest. Ospreys at home are the logical pick.
Win probability: Ospreys 67%, Scarlets 33%
Leinster vs Lions, 17:30 SAST (Aviva Stadium, Dublin)
This one deserves attention. The Lions have been on a six-game winning streak and sit third on the log. But Leinster are at home, just came through a Champions Cup semi-final win over Toulon, and are the kind of side that raises its level against quality opposition. The odds make Leinster heavy favourites and it is hard to argue with that on paper.
Win probability: Leinster 80%, Lions 20%
Connacht vs Munster, 19:45 SAST (The Sportsground, Galway)
The cross-province Irish derby is never neat. Connacht have been excellent at home this season (they beat the Stormers at the Sportsground recently) while Munster are still working to nail down a playoff place. Connacht are narrow favourites on the night.
Win probability: Connacht 60%, Munster 40%
Dragons vs Edinburgh, 19:45 SAST (Rodney Parade, Newport)
Edinburgh are the form side here and should have enough to win away from home. Dragons have been inconsistent all season and the odds reflect it convincingly.
Win probability: Edinburgh 67%, Dragons 33%
The Ulster vs Stormers game on Friday night is the one that could scramble the top of the table before Saturday even starts. If Stormers lose there, Glasgow could end the weekend as leaders. Who are you backing this weekend?
