Pinotage, a world-class wine, is South Africa's pride. Abraham Izak Perold, the first Viticulture Professor at Stellenbosch University and a Cape native, is the mastermind behind this renowned varietal.

Winter is here, time to dust off the red wine :wine_glass:

Daniel’s got the right idea. Nothing better than a decent Pinotage next to a fire when that Cape cold front comes rolling in off the Atlantic. I’ll admit I was a bit of a sceptic years ago, some of those early cheap Pinotages had that acetone smell that put you right off. But the quality has come a long way and if you spend a bit more you’ll find some really excellent bottles coming out of Stellenbosch and Paarl these days.

Perold was a clever man, crossing Pinot Noir with Cinsaut back in the 1920s. Not many people know the seedlings nearly died when he left Stellenbosch, someone else saved them. Close call for SA wine heritage that was. My wife and I had a bottle last night actually, good excuse to get the indoor braai going. Cheers Daniel.
