New vehicle sales hit a 13-year high in April
This is genuinely good news and I don’t want to downplay it. South Africa’s new vehicle market just had its best April in 13 years, which tells you something real about consumer confidence slowly coming back. Now obviously not everyone is out here buying new cars, but this sector is a massive employer and when it does well, it ripples out. Let’s hope it holds.
FlySafair R12 tickets are coming back
Yes, you read that right. R12. FlySafair is turning 12 and they’re doing their birthday sale again with 50,000 tickets at that price. I know these sales move incredibly fast and most of us end up missing out, but it’s worth knowing the launch date and time so you can actually be ready this time. If you’ve been wanting to visit family or just get out of Joburg for a weekend, this is your moment.
Asbestos roofs still on Gauteng RDP homes after 30 years
This one genuinely makes me angry. Residents in Merafong and Kaalfontein are still living under asbestos roofs, which are a known health hazard, and apparently no government department wants to take responsibility or fund the removal. Thirty years. These are people’s homes and people’s lungs we’re talking about. The buck-passing here is absolutely shameful.
Checkers Sixty60 rider goes viral for helping a stranded motorist
Okay we need some good news to end on, and Reginald Maimela delivered. This guy was out doing his deliveries, came across a stranded motorist with a flat battery, tried to jump-start the car from his bike, and when that didn’t work he gave the driver a lift to go get a new battery. Nobody asked him to do any of that. Just a genuinely decent human being doing the right thing. SA needs more Reginalds.
So let’s talk, the asbestos roof story is sitting with me this morning. Who do you think should be held accountable here, the municipality, the provincial government, or national housing? Because clearly the current approach of everyone pointing fingers at each other isn’t working.
Drop your thoughts below, let’s get into it.
