That solar setup might cost you more than you bargained for
This one stings. Plenty of us sank serious money into rooftop solar just to get away from load shedding, and now there’s talk of fines up to R30,000 and even forced removals for some off-grid setups that aren’t properly registered or compliant. My take is that the rules keep shifting under our feet, and the people who did the responsible thing are the ones getting punished. If you’ve gone solar, make sure your paperwork with the municipality is sorted, because ignorance won’t save you here.

SARS has set the dates for tax season 2026
The taxman has announced when filing opens and when those auto assessments start landing. If you’re on auto assessment, you’ll get the notification and you really do need to check it, because SARS isn’t always right and the onus is on you to fix it. I’d rather spend twenty minutes reviewing than cop a problem down the line, so diarise it now.

Five more cops cuffed in the Medicare24 mess
The arrests just keep coming, with another five police members nabbed over the Medicare24 SAPS tender, bringing the total to 26. On one hand it’s grim that so many are involved, on the other it’s encouraging that someone is actually pulling the thread and following it all the way. We complain about accountability never happening, so credit where it’s due, let’s see if it ends in convictions and not just headlines.

Bafana’s World Cup opener is against Mexico
Now for something to actually smile about. We’ve got a date and kick-off time for Bafana Bafana versus Mexico to open the tournament, and the whole world will be watching. It’s been a while since we felt this kind of buzz around the national side, and a World Cup opener is exactly the lift this country needs right now. I’ll be in front of the telly with a cold one, no question.
