SAA in hot water over listeria and alleged cover up
So this one’s a bit stomach turning, literally. SAA is denying that it tried to cover up food contamination at Air Chefs, its catering wing, after lab tests apparently picked up listeria and managers were made to sign NDAs. Listeria is no joke, we all remember the outbreak a few years back, so if there’s any truth to this being hushed up someone needs to answer for it. I fly SAA now and then and this is exactly the kind of story that makes you think twice about that in flight meal.

Durban CIT heist attempt fails, N2 shut for hours
Cash in transit robbers tried their luck on the N2 in Durban and it seems the guards fought back, though they still got robbed in the process. The freeway had to be shut for hours while police investigated, which tells you how serious the scene was. What worries me more is the SABC story running alongside this, where an IPID official is raising concerns that police officers themselves might be involved in these KZN CIT task teams. If that’s true, we’ve got a much bigger rot to deal with than just criminals on the road.

Julius Mkhwanazi back in court for bail
The suspended EMPD deputy chief and his co-accused are back in court fighting for bail over the Emmanuel Mbense murder case, and by the sounds of it the State isn’t budging easily. This case has been dragging since the 2022 abduction and murder of the businessman, and Ekurhuruleni residents deserve to see this through properly. It’s a good reminder that having a badge doesn’t put you above the law, and I hope the courts treat it that way.

R2 billion micro-city coming to Sandton
On a lighter note, Sandton is getting a R2 billion “micro-city” development with its own mall, gym, office block and apartments all in one spot, basically designed so you never have to sit in Joburg traffic again. I love the idea in theory, anyone who’s done the Sandton commute knows it’s soul destroying, but let’s see if it actually gets built on time and doesn’t end up another half finished promise. If it works though, other cities including us here in Pretoria should be taking notes.
