South Africa’s richest man gives 24,000 people houses and land
Now this is the kind of news that makes you sit up and take notice. Our richest man has just handed over houses and land to 24,000 people, which is absolutely massive. I’m curious to see the details on this one because genuine philanthropy like this could be a game-changer for our housing crisis. Meanwhile, some South African brothers have somehow managed to lose R1.58 billion in just 10 months, which honestly makes my head spin thinking about those kinds of numbers.
SASSA Old-Age Grants could increase by R1,200 annually
This is huge news for our pensioners who are really battling with the cost of living right now. There’s apparently a way that an agency could bump up the Old-Age Grants by R1,200 per year, which would be a real lifeline for millions of our elderly. The question is whether this will actually happen or if it’ll just be another parliamentary discussion that goes nowhere. Our gogo’s and tata’s deserve better than empty promises.
Two men murdered for allegedly raping foreign national
This is a disturbing story from 30 June where two men were killed and set alight after allegedly raping a foreign national. Vigilante justice is never the answer, no matter how horrific the alleged crime. We can’t have people taking the law into their own hands like this. The police are asking for help to find the perpetrators, and I really hope they catch them because this kind of mob justice just creates more violence and chaos.
106-year-old public servant union faces cancellation
The Department of Employment and Labour is threatening to cancel one of our biggest and oldest public servant unions that’s been around for 106 years. That’s quite something when you think about it, a union that’s survived apartheid, transition, and everything else we’ve been through. I’m wondering what they’ve done to warrant this kind of action after all these decades.
What do you think about that massive housing donation, is this the kind of private sector leadership we need to see more of in SA?
Catch you all later!
