Braai prices just hit us where it hurts
So the latest Braai Index is out and it’s not pretty. The cost of putting on a braai has seen its biggest monthly jump in a full year, which honestly feels like a personal attack on every South African. We’re already dealing with tight budgets and now even our weekend braais are becoming a luxury. I don’t know about you but this is the kind of news that genuinely stings.

R1.7 billion in NSFAS funding has gone missing
This one is infuriating. Billions of rands meant to help students access education has apparently just vanished, and thousands of qualifying students are sitting at home instead of being in lecture halls right now. Government says they’re doing something about it but we’ve heard that before, haven’t we. These are real young people whose futures are being messed around with while someone somewhere is living large on their bursary money.

Big labour law changes are coming
The Minister of Employment and Labour has dropped two draft bills that could seriously shake up how work hours, dismissals and leave are handled in this country. This affects basically every working South African so it’s worth paying attention to. Whether these changes will actually protect workers or just create more red tape for small businesses, I guess we’ll see.

Cold front heading for Gauteng from Tuesday
For those of us in Pretoria and Joburg, enjoy today’s weather because it sounds like winter is about to make its first proper statement this week. Temperatures are expected to drop sharply from Tuesday with rain and cold conditions rolling in. Get the jackets out of storage, seriously, don’t be the person who gets caught off guard in a t-shirt on Wednesday morning.
