Today marks the end of the Post Office and Postbank partnership
142 years. That’s how long Postbank services have been available through Post Office branches, and as of today, 2 May 2026, that’s officially over. For a lot of older South Africans and people in rural areas, the Post Office was basically their bank, so this is a genuinely big deal for vulnerable communities. I really hope there’s a proper plan in place to make sure people aren’t just left stranded without access to their money.
