Cabinet is writing off all the e-toll debt
So this is the news plenty of us in Gauteng have been waiting years for. Cabinet has agreed to write off all outstanding e-toll debt, two years after they finally switched those gantries off. I know loads of people who simply refused to pay from day one, and it turns out their stubbornness paid off in the end. Feels like vindication for the whole province, honestly.

The green ID book is on its way out
Ramaphosa says the green barcoded ID book will no longer be issued, mostly because of how easy it is to use for identity theft. If you’ve still got one in your drawer, now’s probably the time to start thinking about getting your smart ID card sorted. The smart card has been around for ages now, so this isn’t a shock, but Home Affairs queues being what they are, don’t leave it to the last minute.

A new store claiming 60% cheaper than Pick n Pay and Checkers
A new shop called SKUBU has apparently taken off in a big way, with prices reportedly up to 60 percent cheaper than the big retailers. With grocery prices the way they are, you can see exactly why folks are flocking to it. I’m a bit cautious about these “too good to be true” numbers, so I’d love to hear from anyone who’s actually walked the aisles and compared their till slip.

Our 2010 World Cup voted the greatest of all time
On a lighter note, the 2010 FIFA World Cup right here in SA has just been voted the greatest tournament of all time in a poll. Sixteen years on and people still talk about that winter like it was magic, the vuvuzelas, the flags on every car, the way the whole country actually felt united for a few weeks. We pulled it off when half the world said we couldn’t.
