That R30,000 solar fine deadline is closing in
So there’s an update on the looming 30 September deadline for households with rooftop solar, and if you’re one of the thousands of Saweties who put in a solar system during loadshedding, you really need to check where you stand with this. I know a lot of us rushed to get panels up when Stage 6 was doing the rounds and didn’t necessarily dot every regulatory i. My advice, don’t wait until the last week of September to sort your paperwork out, these things always take longer than you think.

Ramokgopa basically admits Joburg should’ve had its power cut
This one’s a bit wild. The Electricity Minister has come out and said that in a properly functioning market, Johannesburg would already be sitting in the dark over its R7 billion Eskom debt, but he’s still asking Eskom to keep the lights on anyway. It’s the kind of honesty that’s refreshing and terrifying at the same time. If Joburg residents are paying their City Power bills and that money isn’t reaching Eskom, someone needs to explain where it’s actually going, because ratepayers are sick of footing the bill for municipal mismanagement.

Thousands of mothers left without maintenance payments, right in Women’s Month
This one made my blood boil a bit. Money is apparently being deducted from fathers’ salaries for maintenance but not reaching the mothers it’s meant for, and there’s no proper public explanation for where the gap is. During Women’s Month of all times, this is the kind of systemic failure that hits the most vulnerable households hardest, and it needs way more attention than it’s getting.
