Just got back from the Cape after the long weekend, and I have some thoughts, hey.
First off, the weather. Packed for summer, obviously, because it’s April, right? Wrong. That South-Easter hits different down there. Had to buy a proper jacket on day two, because my Gauteng hoodie just wasn’t cutting it. The sea air is lekker, I’ll give them that, but man, the wind.
Did the tourist thing, got a coffee in Sea Point. Shot to the barista, but R45 for a flat white? That’s steep, even for Sea Point. Tried a steak at one of those “famous” spots, and I’m sorry, but it just wasn’t as good as what we get back home. Maybe I’m biased, but a proper Highveld steak hits different.
Now, the driving. People in the Cape, I love you, but what is with the fast lane? It’s like a Sunday drive every day of the week. You get someone sitting in the right lane doing 100, just chilling, while the rest of us are trying to get somewhere. In Gauteng, we understand the fast lane is for fast. Just saying.
But honestly, it was a lekker break. The mountain views never get old, and the vibe in some of the little cafes is proper. Still, there’s something about coming back over the Highveld. That dry air, the familiar skyline, the feeling that you can actually breathe without the ocean humidity. It’s good to be home.
Anyone else do the CT trip this weekend? How was your experience?
