Known as 'Aukoerebis' or 'Place of Great Noise' by the Khoi people, the Augrabies Waterfall in the Augrabies Falls National Park is a sight to behold when the Orange River is in full flood. The waterfall thunders down 56m into the Orange River Gorge, creating an unforgettable spectacle.
Took my Grade 10s to the Augrabies two years ago and half of them had never left Limpopo before, Augrabies is exactly the kind of place that should be on every school’s excursion calendar but somehow it never makes the cut. We teach these kids about South Africa’s natural heritage and then leave them to experience it only through a screen. That’s not education, that’s just information.
