Accurate facts about Joburg! Having lived there for years, I can confirm it’s a city of incredible energy and contrast. The arts scene in areas like Maboneng is world-class.

What other interesting facts do you know?

Yoh, Joburg hits different when you actually live and hustle here. People always talk about Sandton and Maboneng but the real heartbeat of this city is in places like Soweto, Alexandra, Hillbrow. My shop is right here in Soweto and I tell you, the entrepreneurial energy is something else. Every corner has someone running a business, fixing something, selling something.

What gets me is how young this city is compared to Cape Town or even Durban, yet it’s already the economic engine of the whole continent. The gold rush built it and today it’s fintech, small business and street hustle keeping it alive. Joburg doesn’t wait for anyone, sharp sharp.

Anyone else feel like the city’s informal economy is actually bigger than what the stats show?
